Level 3 Diploma in Engineering (Manufacturing)

This course is designed to deliver a blend of technical knowledge with industry-recognised practical training.

Course Overview
This course is offered on a full time and part time basis. The Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels.
The programme combines manufacturing, CADCAM and IT units, and is designed to give you the choice of pursuing a career in practical engineering or progressing to Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in engineering disciplines.
Subjects studied will include:
  • Communications for technicians
  • Health and Safety in the Engineering Workshop
  • Science for technicians
  • Mathematics for technicians
  • Project (manufacturing)
  • Manufacturing systems and technology
  • Engineering materials
  • Engineering drawing
  • Engineering design
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • CNC machining
  • Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM)
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) may be offered as an additional qualification.
Entry Requirements
You will need at least 1 of the following:
  • 4 GCSEs at grade C or above
  • Level 2 Diploma in Engineering
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma will enable you to progress to further study, e.g. HND in Engineering, HNC in Mechanical Engineering, HNC in CAD CAM, or Degree programmes.
You may also progress to employment in areas including:
  • Precision Engineering
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM)
How will it make me more employable?
Part time/ day release students will already be employed in the industry.
Full time students can progress on to further study or may gain employment in various job roles within engineering.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Assessment is continuous throughout the course with a combination of assignments and  practical tasks.
