Course Overview

This one year course is the equivalent to 3 AS levels and enables you to learn about working within the Sports industry.  The course will give you a wide range of knowledge and skills essential to progress within the world of sport and exercise through the study of units directly related. There is an attendance commitment requirement of 15 hours per week.

Modules studied may include:

  • Exercise Health and Lifestyle 


You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and you will be involved in a range of off-site trips and activities, designed to improve employability and knowledge of the sector.

Ideal If:
you want to work as a Fitness Coach, Personal Trainer, Leisure Centre Manager, working in sports development.
You'll Learn:
about anatomy and physiology, team sports, sports nutrition, sports coaching and fitness training and importantly sports massage.
You'll Love:
The practical hands on nature of this course and you will be involved in a variety of individual and team events as well as organising sport events. You will also gain professional qualifications such as IFA coaching qualifications.
You'll Progress:
to the Extended Diploma in Sport(top-up) which upon completion can lead to employment in the sports leisure industry as roles such as a Fitness Coach or Personal Trainer. Alternatively, further study in Higher Education such as the Foundation degree in sports studies can lead to careers in the Sport and Fitness Industry or begin the pathway to becoming a PE teacher.
You'll Need:
A minimum of 4Cs at GCSE level (preferably including English and Maths or equivalent) or a Merit at level 2 and a keen interest in sport.
