Course Overview

This 1 year course is equivalent to 3xAS levels and leads onto the 1 year Extended Diploma (top-up)-students who successfully complete the 90 credit course will automatically be rolled over onto the Extended Diploma & do not need to apply online.

This course is designed to prepare you for a career within the sound/music industry giving you an up-to-date skill-set using the latest music technologies.
 
It focuses on a practical & creative approach to learning key industry related skills, e.g. studio recording & production, live sound engineering & music & sound composition for moving image.
 

Practical workshops delivered by specialist tutors creatively explore a range of new technologies: Pro Tools, Reason, Ableton, Sibelius, Avid S6, Focusrite RedNet, Avid S3L & Venue and Yamaha LS9.

Upon successful completion of the course you will be invited to study on our 1-year BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music Technology, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels.

 

Subjects studied may include:

• Audio Engineering Principles

• Live Sound Engineering

• MIDI Sequencing Techniques

• Music & Sounds for the Moving Image

• Music Business

• Music Theory & Harmony

• Music Piano Keyboard Skills

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability. 

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or Computing.

You'll Learn:
about audio engineering principles, studio and music production techniques, live sound engineering, Electronic music composition for performance and the music business. You will have numerous opportunities to perform and participate in live music performances, sound engineer live music/theatre events and record and produce music albums, film soundtracks etc.

the music recording and performance facilities at our Space Building, Bangor with industry standard equipment such as Pro Tools HD, Focusrite Rednet systems and computer music workstations available for all students.
You'll Progress:
onto employment or further study on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in music Technology
You'll Need:

Entry requirements include the following:  

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in music, or, 4 GCSE’s at Grade C or above.  

Maths, English and ICT at Grade C or above, or equivalent Essentials Skills.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C.  

Music technology experience would also be beneficial.  

Successful completion at interview.  

The interview process will involve an interview and a written test. The outcomes of which, along with the required grades, will determine your entry to this programme.
