Course Overview

This 1 year stand alone course is the equivalent to 3 AS levels and covers the first year units of the 3 A Level Extended Diploma in Business programme.  Through this course you will learn about a range of business related topics. The course will require students to attend for approximately 15 - 18 hours per week.

Modules you will study may include:

  • Business Environment
  • Marketing
  • Business Communications
  • Business Accounting
  • The impact of ICT in Business
  • Business Eco Environment
  • Developing teams in Business
  • Business Resources
  • ICT in Business


You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve your employability. 

 In addition you will also be studying for a qualification in Geographical Information Systems (GIS). 

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (to include both GCSE Maths and English) at grade C or equivalent.

For those with 4 GCSE’s at grade C or equivalent, the opportunity exists to enrol onto the Subsidiary Diploma in Business, which is equivalent to 1 A Level and offers progression onto a BTEC Diploma in Business. 

You will be required to complete Level 2 Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or above in these subjects.

Where will it take me?

Successful completion of this course will lead directly onto further study on the 1 year Extended Diploma (top-up), which upon completion will be the equivalent to 3 A Levels.

Alternatively the course can also lead directly into a career in Banking, Insurance, Civil Service, Retail and Accountancy.
How will it make me more employable?

  • Gaining a Personal Development qualification demonstrating your employability skills (communication, teamwork, critical thinking)

This course will help you succeed in a highly competitive job market by developing the skills and knowledge which employers need you to have.

As well as gaining a recognised qualification you will take part in employability skills workshops such as teamwork, commitment, IT and problem solving. The Career Academy Programme is an integral part of this course which will offer you the knowledge to make informed career decisions. This programme provides the opportunity for students to gain experience in the world of work by gaining an external internship.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
You will be assessed through the 9 units in year 1.
