Course Overview
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of those employed as dispensing assistants in the retail pharmaceutical sector and the health service.
Units include:
  
  Modules may include:
  • Assist with the provision of a pharmacy service to meet individuals' needs
  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of teams

 

4 additional units chosen from the following list, to suit workplace requirements may include:

  • Assist in the sale of medicines and products
  • Assemble prescribed items
  • Assist in the issuing of Pharmaceutical Stock
  • Assist in the manufacture and assembgly of medicinal products
  • Prepare aseptic products
  • Prepare documentation, materials, components and other items for the preparation of aseptic products
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation, materials and other items for manufacture and assembly of medicinal products
  • Assist in the issuing of prescribed items
  • Receive prescriptions from individuals
  • Receive Pharmaceutical Stock
  • Maintain Pharmaceutical Stock
  • Undertake an in-process accuracy check of assembled prescribed items prior to the final accuracy check
  • Order routine Pharmaceutical Stock
Entry Requirements
You must be employed within the Pharmacy Industry to enrol on this course.
 
Where will it take me?
Completion of this course will provide students with a solid understanding of Pharmacy Practice, and is excellent preparation for the NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services course.
 
How will it make me more employable?
This qualification is the minimum legal requirement to work as a dispensing assistant in Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
 
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Assessment is continuous throughout the course with a combination of practical tests and work-based projects. Students will be assessed in the workplace. Students that have completed NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Services may be able to claim Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for some elements of units withing the NVQ 3.
