Course Overview

This one year Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-Up is a qualification that has been specially designed to enable you to learn both aspects of hairdressing and media make-up artist.  Within the course you will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment as a junior hair and make-up artist.  Learners will have their hairdressing and make-up artistry skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.

Modules studied may include:

  • The art of dressing hair
  • The art of photographic make-up
  • Apply make-up
  • Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Cut women's hair
  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
  • Themed face painting
  • Colour hair

Assessments will be carried out on paying clients.

Ideal If:
you would like to work as a Junior Hair and Make-up Artist in the Hairdressing, TV, Film or Theatre industry.
You'll Learn:
the art of dressing hair, how to apply make-up, lash and brow treatment, how to cut women’s hair and colour hair. You will also create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty industry. 
You'll Love:

learning aspects of both hairdressing and media-up which will prepare you for employment. The hands-on approach to this course and getting experience in the College Salons of Shadeka and Revive.

Working at commercial events such as Halloween, Christmas shows.

You'll Progress:
onto employment or the Level 3 in Hairdressing or Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up
You'll Need:

2 GCSEs at Grade C or above and successful outcome at skills test and interview.

Mature students with experience but not the entry requirements will also be eligible. You will be required to complete a skills test and interview for this course.

This full-time course will be timetabled over 21 hours per week ie - 15 hours of vocational classes, 3 hours per week employability training and 3 hours per week Essential skills English and Maths. You will be required to attend essential skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE in English, Maths and IT. 

You will be required to attend essential skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths and IT. 

Students are required to provide materials and equipment e.g. (Uniform and Kits). Your tutor will inform you of extra costs involved with these.
