Course Overview

This qualification is for anyone who works or wants to work as a chef in the Catering or Hospitality sector. It is ideal for learners coming straight from school who wish to seek a career in this industry.

This course will be completed over 15 to 21 hours per week dependent on student's Essential Skills requirement. 

You will cover things such as :


    Food safety in Catering Prepare, and cook stocks, soups & Sauces

    Prepare and cook fruit & vegetables

    Prepare and cook meat & offal

    Prepare and cook poultry

    Prepare and cook fish & shellfish

    Prepare and cook rice, pasta, grains and egg dishes

    Produce hot and cold desserts and puddings

    Produce paste products

    Produce biscuit, cake and sponge products

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English or Maths or Computing.

Entry Requirements


4 GCSE grade A - C or significant experience.

It is necessary to complete any relevant Essential Skills course if you do not have grade A - C in Mathematics or English at GCSE.

Where will it take me?

You can progress onto a Level 3 professional cookery qualification or full time employment in the industry.

How will it make me more employable?
Throughout the course you will develop industry standard skills in both practical and theory based elements of the culinary arts. Project based learning will be used as a means of developing skills.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?

You are required to demonstrate that you meet industry standard through formal practical assessments and theory tests.

Additional Costs
Chef whites and safety shoes are required. These costs approximately £60.
