Course Overview
This Land Based Technology course takes 2 years to complete.
Land-based engineers work to solve problems using a combination of scientific, technical and engineering knowledge.
IMI L2 Diploma in Work Based Land Based Engineering Operations


Modules may include:

  • Land based Engineering Operations - Applying Mechanical Principles
  • Land based Engineering Operations - Understand how to Use, Service and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Land based Engineering Operations - Material Preparation, Shaping and Assembling
  • Monitor and Maintain Health and Safety in a Land-based Engineering Work Area
  • Land based Engineering Operations - Carry out servicing and maintenance on land based equipment


Entry Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's including at least grade F in English and Maths, however to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of grade D in Maths and English.
  • You must have secured employment (minimum of 21 hours, inclusive of college hours) within the industry.
  • You need to be 16 by the end of June and no older than 24.
  • You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology.
Where will it take me?

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship or alternatively go to work directly into industry. Other Further & Higher Education progression routes may also be available. You could also move into technical sales, maintenance team management and contract management  or moving into supervisory roles. For others, it could prepare them for progression to further learning and training.



How will it make me more employable?
For some individuals, this qualification could provide a useful recognition of their professional competence. It  will also help to  improve your job opportunities and employability skills.


How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Assessment will be through practical and written examinations.
