Course Overview

This two-year course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge essential to work with the IT Sector. The course will enable you to qualify for a level 2 OCR Technical Diploma in IT together with a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence.  

Subjects studied may include:

IT Security

Website Development

Installing Computer Hardware

Communicating in the IT Industry

Health and Safety

Testing ICT Systems

Data Base Software  

You will also study Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT unless exempt through GCSE grades C or above in Maths, English and ICT respectively.  

You will be able to 'Earn while you Learn' as an apprentice. 

As an apprentice you will spend 6-8 hours a week in the College.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs grades including ICT and preferably grade C or above in Maths and English.  

Candidates must have secured suitable employment within the IT Sector and have a contract of employment for a minimum of 21 hours per week.  

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or above or L2 Essential Skills in Maths, English and ICT respectively. You will also participate in enterprise and entrepreneurship programmes to help you explore and develop ideas for starting your own business.

Where will it take me?

This course is equivalent to 5 GCSE passes.  

The Apprenticeship course will provide you with relevant training in Information Technology that can lead directly to a Level 3 Apprenticeship in IT and further your career in the IT sector. It could lead to employment as a business analyst, games designer, computer hardware engineer or service technician, IT product developer, IT technical sales specialist of IT trainer.

How will it make me more employable?

This course can give you qualifications which will improve your job opportunities. You will complete modules in Employability and Personal Development.  Apprentices will work with their employer in addition to attending the College.  

This course will help you succeed in a highly competitive job market by developing your skills and knowledge whilst learning in the work environment.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
The Level 2 Diploma is assessed by a combination of on-line tests and assignments set by the awarding body and a building of a student portfolio of work.
Additional Costs
There are not normally any additional costs though students will need to have access to a computer or laptop at home.
Accreditation
The awarding bodies for this course are Edexcel/Pearson and OCR.
