Hairdressing - Skills for Work (Level 2)


This practical course can lead to further study and employment in a hairdressing salon

Course Overview

You will learn how to style and finish hair, cut hair and colour and lighten hair.  You will also advise and consult with clients and fulfil reception duties.

Modules may include:
  • Shampooing and conditioning hair and scalp
  • Blow drying hair
  • Cutting hair using basic techniques
  • Colouring hair

You will get experience in a real salon environment at the College, which is open to the public and your salon placement.

You will complete modules in employability skills.

Assessments will be carried out on paying clients.

Ideal If:
if you would like to train to become a qualified hairdresser and gain more experience in hairdressing to improve your job opportunities.
You'll Learn:
how to style and finish hair, cut hair and colour and lighten hair. You will also advise and consult with clients and fulfil reception duties
You'll Love:
getting experience in a real salon environment at the College,which is open to the public and your salon placement.
You'll Progress:

onto a NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing programme and a career within the hairdressing industry.  

If you secure employment during the programme you can move directly into the Apprenticeship at Level 2.

 

You'll Need:

to be 16 years of age.  You will also need 5 GCSEs including at least grade F in English and Maths.  However to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of grade D in Maths and English. 

This course will require an interview and skills test.

Uniforms are paid for by the College.  You will also require a kit, 50% of this will be funded by the College and you will be responsible for the other 50%.  This must be paid during the first week of the programme.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy and Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or ICT.

  • Submit all coursework and assessments by specified dates, coursework submitted without consent after the deadline shall not normally be accepted

  • Pass all modules in each year of study in order to proceed to the next year of the programme.
