GCSE Mathematics for Access Students

A one year GCSE maths course to develop your skills in Number, Statistics, Algebra and Geometry. The course offered is modular and consists at three exams over the year. (Full Time Access students do not pay tuition fee, registration only)

Course Overview
There are three units that make up the qualification. 

Unit 1 – Statistics and Number (26.7% overall mark)
Unit 2 – Number and Algebra ( 33.3% overall mark)
Unit 3 - Geometry and Algebra (40% overall mark)

 
Entry Requirements

A keen interest in mathematics is essential.  Successful completion of the pre-course assessment, which takes approximately an hour. Alternative courses are available to students who do not meet the requirement in this assessment.

Where will it take me?
Foundation tier is targeted at achieving a grade ‘C’ at GCSE maths.  Higher tier is targeted at achieving up to a grade A*.  It is possible to take a combination of Higher and Foundation units.
 
The skills learnt in Mathematics are transferable across a range of subjects, are applicable to everyday situations and sought after in employment.
How will it make me more employable?

Many job descriptions make a grade ‘C’ or above in GCSE Mathematics a mandatory qualification when applying for posts.  Further and higher education courses may also request that students have achieved a grade ‘C’ or above prior to entry.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?
The assessment details are as follows:

Unit 1 – Statistics and number in November
Unit 2 – Number and Algebra in March
Unit 3 - Geometry and Algebra in June
