Course Overview

Students can study 3 or 4 A2 Levels or they may wish to study a mixture of AS and A2 Levels in the same year. Students can also study AS and A2 Levels in one year (fast track A Levels). This will be further explained at interview. There is a commitment required of 5 hours per week per A Level subject.


Students may choose 3 or 4 subjects from the following:


• Psychology (Bangor)
• Sociology (Bangor)
• English Literature (Bangor)
• History (Bangor)
• Government & Politics (Bangor)
 Religious Studies (Bangor)


You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Numeracy if you do not have a GCSE grade C in Maths. Students will have the opportunity to take part in enrichment activities such as guest talks and course related trips.

Entry Requirements

To gain entry to this course you will need to have successfully completed qualifications at AS Level or A2 Level. The following subjects have an additional requirement:


Psychology (At least 2 B’s and 3 C’s at GCSE Level including Grade C or above in GCSE Maths)

Sociology (At least 2 B’s and 3 C’s at GCSE Level)


An interview will be required prior to participating on the course.

Where will it take me?

Completion of A2 Level can lead to continued study at Higher Education or to employment. In 2015-16 SERC A Level students received places at 10 different Universities, including QUB, UU, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Newcastle and Dundee. They are studying a wide range of subjects including History, Politics, Sociology, Psychology, Law, Social Work, Criminology, Language and Linguistics, Business, Business Management, Advertising & Marketing, ICT, Broadcast Journalism, Human Resource Management, Media and Geography.    

How will it make me more employable?

As well as gaining a recognised qualification, our careers education programme will equip you with the knowledge to make informed career decisions. You will also be assisted in your UCAS application by your tutor. You will also have the opportunity to complete several employability qualifications which will enhance your employment prospects.

How will I be assessed and given feedback?

Students will sit a number of class tests during the year to assess their progress. In addition, students will complete a formal mock exam in December or January. Final external examinations are taken in May or June. All subjects are exam based with no coursework apart from A2 Level English Literature, which is assessed partly by coursework and external exams.

Additional Costs

Students who choose to complete A2 Levels part-time (i.e. studying just one or two A2 Levels) are liable to pay fees. In 2016-17 fess were £375 per A2 subject, including exam entry fees. Students aged over 19 on 1 July 2018 will be liable to pay fees whether they are full-time or part-time. In 2016-17 fees were £375 per A2 subject, including exam entry fees.
