Course Overview
This 2 year course will equip you with the skills needed to become a construction plant mechanic involved in the service and maintenance of equipment used on construction sites. This includes large equipment such as bulldozers, cranes and diggers and also smaller machinery such as air compressors, pumps and generators. You will complete all the Level 3 outcomes required to match the occupational framework.  
 Modules may include:
• Plant maintenance
 • Workshop practical skills
 • Vehicle inspection
 • Basic vehicle inspection
 • Hydraulics
 • Pneumatics
 • Health and safety
Entry Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's including at least grade F in English and Maths, however to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of grade D in Maths and English.
  • You must have secured employment (minimum of 21 hours, inclusive of college hours) within the industry.
  • You need to be 16 by the end of June and no older than 24.
  • You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology.
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship or alternatively go to work directly into industry. Other Further & Higher Education progression routes may also be available
How will it make me more employable?
This course can give you formal qualifications which will improve your job opportunities and employability skills.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
Skills and knowledge will be assessed with a range of practical tasks and multiple-choice tests (online). In addition, evidence of occupational competence is collected from jobs carried out in the workplace.
