Course Overview

Bricklayers build and repair walls, chimney stacks, tunnel linings and decorative stonework. They may also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects.

This course will give you the skills necessary to start working in the Bricklaying sector, your main qualification will be a Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying.

Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying

 

Mandatory Modules may include:

 

  • Safe working practices
  • Information, quantities and communicating
  • Building methods and construction technology
  • Interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures
  • Solid walling. isolated and attached piers
  • Cavity walling forming masonry structures
  • Solid and cavity walling
You will attend college 2-3 days per week and 1-2 days will be spent on placement. This course is a 2 Year programme.

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or IT.

You will also work towards a Personal Development qualification and will be involved in a range of activities, designed to improve employability.

Entry Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's including at least grade F in English and Maths, however to help you succeed on the course it is preferable if you have a minimum of grade D in Maths and English.
  • You must be 16 by the end of June but no older than 18, OR under 22 if you have a disability.
  • You will be required to complete Essential Skills Literacy, Numeracy and ICT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skill in English, Maths or IT.
Where will it take me?

The Skills for Work course will provide you with relevant training in Bricklaying that can lead directly to a Level 3 qualification and a career within the Bricklaying industry.

If you secure employment during the programme you can move directly into the Apprenticeship at Level 2.

How will it make me more employable?
This course can give you the qualifications which will improve your job opportunities. You will complete modules in Employability and Personal Development.
 
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
You will be assessed through a series of written, online and practical tests. Feedback will be provided to you by your course tutor.
