Course Overview

Bricklayers build and repair walls, chimney stacks, tunnel linings and decorative stonework. They may also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects.

This 2 year course is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to further develop a career in Bricklaying. 1-2 Days a week will be spent in college and 2-3 days will be spent on site with an employer.

Level 3 City & Guilds Diploma in Bricklaying (6705-33)

 

Subjects studied will include:

  • Safe working practices
  • Information, quantities and communicating
  • Building methods and construction technology
  • Structural and decorative brickwork
  • Repair and maintain masonry structures
  • Complex masonry structures
  • Detailed brickwork

 

Entry Requirements
  • You must hold a Level 2 qualification in the same vocational area.
  • You must have secured employment (minimum of 21 hours, inclusive of college hours) within the industry.
  • You need to be 16 or over by the end of June but no older than 24.
  • You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skill in Maths, English or IT.
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of this course will mean you are a fully qualified Bricklayer. For further study there are a number of Higher Education courses at the college to which students can progress, including HNC in Construction. These are available on a part-time basis while you work.
How will it make me more employable?
Successful completion of the course shall lead to employment in the bricklaying trade as a fully qualified bricklayer or further higher education courses.
How will I be assessed and given feedback?
There will be a series of written, online and practical tests that will be carried out throughout the year. You will also need to gather evidence from the workplace.
